Stanstead Hosts First McMaster Divsion Weekend
2014-11-19Stanstead Hosts First McMaster Divsion Weekend by James Rioux The opening McMaster Weekend kicked off this past weekend at Stanstead College. All 5 teams competed hard for three days in what proved to be an exciting few days of hockey. Leading the way was Rothesay Netherwood with a very strong showing of 3 wins and 1 tie. The team is deep, well balanced at all positions and likely favourite early on. Next came Stanstead College with 2 wins and 2 ties. The red and white were slow to get going but managed to complete the weekend with two consecutive wins, notably one in the final minute of play. Northwood also competed hard all weekend and possesses a deep roster as well. They perhaps deserved a better fate in the Saturday evening game and will definitely be in the thick of it once all is said and done. King's Edgehill School is NAPHA's newest member and notably the youngest team as well. They are loaded with talent and will inevitably get better as the year goes on. Last but not least, is Rice Memorial. The Knights are well coached and play a complete game. They were perhaps feeling tired from a huge weekend in Rochester the previous weekend, however, there is no doubt that they competed hard and will be a difficult team to play against. Their record certainly does not reflect their potential. Many thanks for a wonderful weekend of opening league play. Special mention to the girls for displaying excellent sportsmanship and offering an outstanding hockey to a rather full arena. We all meet back again at Rothesay, New Brunswick from December 5-7 when RNS hosts the second divisional set of NAPHA games.
